Light Guides

LUMO light guides are designed to make good optical contact with the scalp and improve data quality.

All light guides are interchangeable within LUMO dock chains and caps so that users can customise their setup for optimal performance, and easily remove components for cleaning and disinfecting.

Sprung Light Guides

Designed to significantly improve data collection in areas of the scalp that have hair. This is achieved with two main features:

  • - Each POF maintains a constant downward pressure. This improves the ability to comb through hair and reach the scalp.

  • - Each POF is independently sprung. Individual extension and compression of POFs creates a tailored fit, allowing for improved conformance to different head curvatures. This improves comfort as well as optical coupling.

The table below summarises the design and feature of each type of guide.

Fixed v Sprung

The graphs below show the good channel increase when using sprung light guides in two participants (one with short hair, one with long hair).

Fixed Light Guides

Fixed light guides are available in two variations: flat or protruding.

Flat light guides are our lowest profile light guide, and make the cap more compact and lightweight. Provides maximum light transmission in low curvature regions with little or no hair, such as the forehead. Ideal for infants.

Protruding light guides extend by 6 mm, designed to comb through moderate amounts of hair to improve optical coupling whilst maintaining comfort.
